IN BETWEEN

The twenty-two images of In Between show shifting ambiguous relationships between three figures. I photographed myself, and my husband and a male friend who have physiques almost the polar opposites of each other. I hoped to create an open-ended filmic narrative caught between childhood play and adult encounters. I photographed in rural spaces—the sorts of structures, barns, and fields that hold a cultural dichotomy as both the settings of bucolic romantic fantasies and spaces of horror-movie danger. In Between was created between 1998 and 2000.
